peerintomywindows: God deals you a hand. There’s nothing you can do to change that. But you get to play that hand. You get to respond to the events of your life. Autumn kick-off.
September 1, 2010 Krysta excitedly woke up saying, “MOM, TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF SEPTEMBER! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” Yes it is! Autumn is knocking at our front door and I’m ecstatically letting it in. This is OUR season. Our favorite season. And we’re soaking up every moment of it. To kick things off, Ron and I met for a breakfast date at Kaladi Brothers, because nothing says “autumn”...

Drawing an end to summer
What to say about this week? This week has been full of rain, sun, homework, and the waking of alarm clocks. We officially finished the first full week of school. It was…a success! Krysta woke up to her very own alarm clock, picked out her very own clothes, AND made her very own lunch. Look at my big girl, would you! You see, when I said it’s going to be a big year, full of big new things, I...

Road Trip
At 5am we packed up the car and kids and headed to Seward, Alaska. It was our last summer hoorah before the snow hits and school starts. The weatherman said, “sunny skies!” Hallelujah, sunny skies! It has been raining for the past month, so this trip couldn’t be more perfectly timed! …Uff-da, the weatherman let me down. It rained. and rained. and rained. Seriously dude,...

I loved this weekend...
I loved this weekend because… Ron cooked eggels for everyone first thing in the morning, along with the perfect cup of freshly brewed coffee- Boca Style. Eggels is what we, in the Roe Household, call an egg on a bagel. Nom Nom Nom. I loved this weekend because… laundry was officially on hold until Monday. I loved this weekend because… we went on a family walk- enjoyed...

A New Year
Yesterday, my babe started second grade. *tear* It seriously felt like she was just starting kindergarten, and now- NOW she’s a BIG kid, about to learn BIG new things. On a sidenote: We LOVE Krysta’s new backpack- it’s perfect! In fact, we like it better than L.L. Bean’s backpacks! Excellent quality, unique, AND she monogrammed Krysta’s name of the front for...

Hospital Ups and Downs
Look at my growing boy! William is a whopping 19 pounds, 11ounces. I’m constantly amazed at how quickly my little dude is progressing. This was a A+ doctor’s visit. No blood work. No labs. No bad news. William’s test results came back- he’s negative for Cystic Fibrosis. Awesome! We’re going to run more tests at his six month mark to see if everything is looking...

A new memory
It was a weekend of a new adventure. A new challenge. A new memory. Krysta started cheerleading and let’s just say she loved it! She’s encouraged to hop and bop and yell till her heart’s content; what more could a seven year old girl want. Saturday was the Opening Ceremony on Elmendorf AFB, and with only having an hour to learn the “Opening Ceremony Cheer,” Krysta was nervous, and I was...

Getting up and going.
This seems to be a reoccurring theme in the Roe Household, “getting up and going.” We high tailed it to Barnes and Noble because Krysta desperately needed a new book. Oh hell, who am I kidding- we high tailed it to Barnes and Noble because I desperately needed coffee. Krysta enjoyed nibbling on a giant sugar cookie and William, well he enjoyed nibbling on the cardboard books. We bought those...

When the going gets tough.
I could talk about how my laundry basket is grossly over-flowing with dirty clothes. But I won’t. I could talk about my dirty dishes. My dirty bathrooms. My dirty floors. But I won’t. I could talk about how I’m sleep deprived or how William is fussing non-stop because he’s teething and I haven’t had a moment of silence since- I don’t know when- but I won’t. I will say, I’ve been there, done that,...

GUEST BLOGGER: My Husband, TSgt Roe
Finally. 6 weeks in the Air Force’s Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA) culminated with the usual fanfare at the Elmendorf Base Theater. I would say that finishing the Academy is bitter-sweet, but that would be a lie. It’s just sweet. Never have I so desperately wanted to just get back to work than through the last 45 days. The ceremony was simple: walk across the stage to the...

Days like this.
It’s days like this that makes my world go ‘round. Days like this where I’m absolutely tickled from my finger tips to the tips of my toes. Days like this where I feel like I’m the richest woman in the world. The richest in love, because I’m blessed with these two beautiful children. If my love for them is a string, it would wrap around the world more times than I can...

A 48 hour Saturday
I love it when Fridays feel like Saturdays. It sets the pace for a perfectly perfect long weekend. It’s totally a placebo effect of having two Saturdays in one, but I dig it. I also love it when I get a major urge to clean. Yeah, I said the C word- CLEAN! And of course, it’s even better when the urge hits me on a Friday- for the reasons above. Cleaning allows me to clear my head, to relieve...

The Sweat Test.
Friday afternoon I received a phone call from Peds saying that I’ve been approved to go downtown for further testing on William. This test will be ran for Cystic Fibrosis. Scary, right? I can’t help but to mentally prepare for a positive result- thinking about how it will effect our life, how it will effect Will’s life, our future, the present, what plan of action do we take...

Carrying through the weekend.
Here’s a sneak peek of our “photo shoot” yesterday. I have buckets of photos to sort through, so I’ll post more of this on Monday. Today is going to be filled with running errands, painting, sewing, and attempting to make my house look decent, all while spending time with the little ones. Sometimes I wish I had octopus arms- so I can multi-task and get things done eight...

Independence Day.
It’s that time of year when America decks out in stars and stripes of red, white, and blue and we all gather around for picnics, parades, and other star spangled outdoor festivities, all in the name of Liberty and Freedom. For us in Alaska, it was a cold, gray, rainy day. The kind of day where it’s perfect for cuddling under a thick quilt with a cup of hot tea. But, not us. No,...

Gotta love sisters.
I went to take a shower, so I said to Krysta, “please watch William, but if he starts to cry, run and get me.”  I planned on being in the shower for 3 minutes before Krysta runs in saying, “Mama, mama, William’s crying!” 3 minutes pass…nothing. 5 minutes pass…still nothing. I thought to myself, “this is awesome!” I completed a full shower...

North Carolina. Part 2
When I sit down to write a blog post, 99% of the time I have no idea where to start or if I do, 99% of time it ends in a completely different direction. This is one of those times. I have dozens of photos of Krysta J playing in the fountain in Charlotte, NC- I mean what do I say? She had fun? Cause she did! Boy. did. she. have. fun! My Aunt said, “I think this is the most fun...

North Carolina. Part 1
Several weeks ago Krysta, William, and I hopped on an 18 hour plane flight bound for NC. And let me just say, my babies were excellent- no complaining, no whining, no crying- perfectly well-behaved children! In fact, William was the highlight of the flight. He allowed a few ladies and a stewardess to nibble on his delicious cheeks and thighs. Let me just say that he is more delicious than anything...

Family and Friends- William's Updates
For the past 4 months we’ve been on a roller coaster ride, and it’s not the “amusement park, wave your hands in the air because it’s more fun” type of ride. This is the “Oh my God my baby could be sick, waiting for answers, and living in limbo” type of ride. An emotional roller-coaster. Now 4 months later, we’re still doing blood work dealing with...

Dancing in the rain.
Well, my spoonful of sunshine has disappeared somewhere behind the mountains. Not only did the sun go away, but the bottom of the sky fell out! So, we did what anyone would do when they’re couped up in the house- we read, played games, curled up and watched TV, while mommy drank buckets of coffee. Of course, that only lasted for so long- little bodies got restless, cabin fever set in,...

Summer rolls on.
I’ve decided that my staple summer saying is, “just add water.” That’s because these days, it’s all we’ve been doing. Whether it’s the water hose, water sprinkler, or water balloons, you really can’t go wrong! Krysta puts on her bright pink bathing suit and anxiously waits by the window, eying my every move, as I pull out that long green hose to let...

Just add water. (and the quickest post to date)
It doesn’t get much better than this. The sun is high. The air is warm. So what do we do? We invite besties over to help share the summer fun. In Alaska there’s very little time for warm weather, so when summer comes around, we live outside. We soak up every ounce of warmth the sun has to offer, we run around barefoot, and we throw our worries out the door. Around here, when we...

Summer kickoff.
The endless days of summer continues. Literally. We’re now up to 20 1/2 hours of daylight in Alaska. With all of the extended daylight I can get more errands and housework done, right? NO, not this girl. We’re spending our days lazing about, soaking up the sunshine, and drinking the fresh air. YES, that’s how we’re enjoying our summer. It has warmed up to the...

Ahh Summer
Yes indeed, summer has arrived. It’s that special time of year where colors pop in shades of hot pink, yellow, and turquoise and shoes are prohibited. Our summer motto is, “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem.” Daylight has currently extended to 19 hours per day (and counting), so this week we’ve been spending our time filled with small happenings in the front yard....

Summer Lovin' Happened so Fast.
I never really know how to describe the Alaskan Summer. Our Summer is like your Spring. It’s a beautiful sight- mild temps ranging from 50-70, lush flowers, bright green grass, blue skies, purple mountains, and everyday smells like fresh rain. Summer in Alaska has come. The ice cream truck is making its rounds, the sounds of children laughing and the humming of lawn mowers fill the...

The Roe household has been a huge blur lately. Minutes and hours have run together into days and now we’re approaching two weeks where the chaos continues. Everything is coming together full-force in order to wrap up the school year. Then, of course,...

What goes down, must come up (as I like to say)
Let me just start off with saying: WE HAVE ALL BEEN SICK THIS WEEK! When you have two parents plus a kid and a baby with colds, it makes daily life very difficult. Life doesn’t stop and say, “Hey Sweetie, just get some rest and I’ll make you some chicken noodle soup.” No, you suck up the cold and you continue to carry on with everyday living- even if that means having a...
